Multiplication worksheets are a quick and easy way to introduce some math revision at home. At first your kids may not appreciate being given extra ”homework”, but the advantages they will gain from ”sharpening the saw” and practicing their math will serve them well; both back in the classroom and on in to later life. With a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Word you can easily make your own math worksheets, but not everyone has that knowledge so it‘s fortunate that there are many websites dedicated to providing free printable resources, usually in PDF format. You just download, and print - the only software required is the free Adobe PDF reader.
If you do want to produce your own worksheets and don‘t have the Microsoft software, you can download free tools like OpenOffice or use an online word processor or spreadsheet such as the free Google Docs which help you do similar tasks. You just need to create a table with as many rows and columns as you need and then type in some numbers before printing it off for your children to practice - depending on the level of complexity choose single digits or multiple digits. If you‘re not sure what level to start at, aim low, start with easy numbers and see how your child goes, the self-esteem boost they‘ll get from acing the first worksheet will give them confidence for more difficult math problems.
The importance of teaching our children math simply can‘t be underestimated. Basic math skills such as understanding addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages are all basic life skills. We use these skills every day, often without even thinking about it. The question, then, isn‘t why our children should learn math, but what we can do to help them learn. Children need our encouragement. They need the help and guidance of family members. They also need numerous opportunities to practice.
A lot of you send your children to tutoring centers like Kumon, Huntington, Sylvan, Score and others. But do you really know what exactly do these tutoring centers provide your children? Resources - resources to practice via lots and lots of homework when it comes to Math. And lots and lots of math worksheets. So a lot of parents today end up spending hundreds of dollars every month for nothing but math worksheets. The math practice books and other practice materials can cost you arm and a leg. So where do you turn to find a cheaper alternative? Immediately you might think of the internet. If you search the internet, you will find hundreds and hundreds of websites that offer practice worksheets. But you will run in the same problem, cost-efficient and affordable worksheets.
None of this is true, of course. So, first you need to bite your tongue. Secondly, get your child interested in math from an early age. Math does not have to be about columns and columns of figures, and the sooner you can introduce your child to math in a fun way the better. Mathematics worksheets can help you do this, with pages of fun exercises that will teach your child the basic principles they need. This helps you, as you don‘t have to write out pages of math exercises and try to make them interesting - it also helps your child.
A good set of kids math worksheets will present math in an exciting way, incorporating lessons of quantity, counting and writing numbers in a way that children understand and relate to. Mathematics worksheets should use different methods to teach your child the principles of addition and subtraction to make sure they understand the concept, not just learn the answers by rote. A decent set of worksheets will use step-by-step methods to help your child progress from the first steps in number recognition and counting, to more complicated sums and word problems.
